Slutavverkning, the Stockholm-based avant-garde collective, has unleashed Skräp, a searing four-track EP that cements their place at the forefront of jazz-punk and noise rock. Released on September 5, 2025, through Feral Cuts, Skräp (Swedish for “Garbage”) is a raw, unfiltered exploration of society’s waste—material, ideological, and cultural. Building on their 2023 debut album Levande Charader, the band’s delivery sits at the top of their range, pushing their instruments and creative boundaries to their most chaotic outer bounds.
Skräp showcases Slutavverkning at their most unrestrained, with guitarist Pelle Andersson recording and mixing the EP to capture its deliberately rough-hewn sound. “We aimed to cram every abrasive sound and unorthodox technique into something that feels like it’s about to burst,” Andersson explains. The result is four tracks—‘Rubbish Heap’, ‘Consume and Discard’, ‘False Beliefs’, and ‘Left Behind’—driven by jagged guitar riffs, frenetic saxophone, and Jon Ekström’s commanding, burly Swedish vocals. Released on limited 7″ vinyl and major streaming platforms, the EP reflects Feral Cuts’ dedication to raw, independent music.
Formed in 2018, Slutavverkning emerged to fuse the gritty energy of noise rock with the improvisational freedom of acid jazz. Their early EPs, Music of Labour and Sorrow I-III, featured core members Pelle Andersson (guitar), Jon Ekström (vocals), and Marcus Källström (drums), joined by saxophone maestro Per Texas Johansson (Fire! Orchestra, Stockholm Jazz Orchestra). The lineup evolved with Per Wiberg (formerly of Opeth, Candlemass, Spiritual Beggars) on bass and Isak Hedtjärn (Fire! Orchestra) on saxophone and clarinet, pushing the band into wilder sonic territory. Their 2023 debut Levande Charader captured the raw intensity of their live shows, blending influences from the chaotic energy of The Birthday Party to the principled ferocity of Fugazi. Skräp distils this into a tightly wound, anticapitalist statement, delivered with a distinctly Swedish edge.

The band’s members draw from a deep well of experience, with Wiberg’s heavy metal roots and Hedtjärn’s avant-garde jazz pedigree adding depth to their sound. This fusion of backgrounds allows Slutavverkning to navigate between abrasive punk and intricate jazz, creating a sound that’s both primal and sophisticated.
Andersson describes Skräp as “a reaction to the noise we’re all drowning in—consumerism, misinformation, and the mess we leave behind.” Ekström adds, “It’s not just music; it’s a shout into the void, hoping to wake someone up.” Fans of the band’s live performances note their ability to channel this energy into electrifying, unpredictable shows, where instruments are pushed to their limits and the stage becomes a battleground for ideas.
With Skräp, Slutavverkning delivers a thrilling, chaotic masterpiece that pushes the boundaries of jazz-punk and noise rock. The EP’s raw production, coupled with the band’s storied lineup and unrelenting energy, makes it a standout release amidst the global noise rock revival. As they continue to draw from their influences while carving a unique path, Slutavverkning is set to leave a lasting impact on the avant-garde music scene.
