pInOcchIO gIrl, the experimental project of Boise-based artist Bonnie Tocsin, has released bEstIAl sOcIAlIzAtIOn, a debut full-length album featuring over 90 minutes of high-frequency harsh noise and dread-infused dark ambient sound collage. Released on 5th September 2025, the album channels the abstract emotional journey of a life and person falling apart through surrealist sonic techniques. This is audio art that truly embraces its complete lack of boundaries.

bEstIAl sOcIAlIzAtIOn marks pInOcchIO gIrl’s first venture into power electronics territory, though Tocsin emphasises that the project isn’t explicitly defined by this genre. Instead, the powerful electronics influence combines with the sound collage surrealism that has characterised the project’s previous output, creating what she describes as an “abstract emotional journey.” The project draws heavily from surrealism, dreams, and nightmares, utilising dark ambient, noise, and drone styles to emphasise abstract expression of emotions rather than conventional song structures.

There are parts of this record that feel and sound more like an audio movie than a conventional record. Sounds of a struggling victim are drowned out by the narrations of a deranged antagonist, with sound effects being the dominant audio element, creating a haunting atmospheric tension throughout the composition. All marred by screeching, scratching and various samples.

five of these ten tracks clock in around 10 minutes or more – a lot more – with the longest track clocking over 25 minutes. Many of these sound collages transitioning to cut up loops and ominous background sounds. Echoes, silence, and jump-fright electronics meld together with zero regard for sonic convention. The strongest reference point would undoubtedly have to be Nurse With Wound, with its with its disorienting tape manipulations and surreal juxtapositions that transform familiar sounds into something deeply unsettling. Like Steven Stapleton’s pioneering work, pInOcchIO gIrl uses extended duration not as indulgence but as necessity, allowing each sonic element to breathe, decay, and mutate into forms that shorter compositions could never achieve.

Tocsin positions her work for fans of genre pioneers including Whitehouse, Controlled Bleeding, Pedestrian Deposit, Sutcliffe Jügend, Nurse With Wound, and P16.D4 – a lineage that speaks to both the project’s uncompromising nature and its roots in the more experimental corners of industrial and noise music. The album’s distinctive typography, alternating between uppercase and lowercase letters, reflecting a commitment to visual disruption as well as of the sonic variety.

Tocsin’s multimedia approach, combining her backgrounds in writing and visual arts, positions bEstIAl sOcIAlIzAtIOn as complete artistic expression of psychological states too raw for conventional genre expressions. The 90-minute duration places it firmly in the endurance-based experimental tradition, where length becomes part of the aesthetic experience itself.
