Black Artifact Release New Skin Tape Video for Reissue of 1994 PUNCTURE Album

To accompany the reissue of Puncture’s 1994 self-titled album, Black Artifact released new Skin Tape video for the track ‘Youth Gone Mild’.

Skin Tape is a video project that has been making a name for itself over the past few years. With a strong musical focus, Skin Tape produces video clips and other visual content for music projects, particularly in the realms of industrial and noise. Their latest offering comes in the form of a video clip for industrial metal band Puncture for the track ‘Youth Gone Mild,’ released by Black Artifact ahead of the reissue of their 1994 self-titled album.

The video clip for ‘Youth Gone Mild’ embraces Skin Tape’s signature style; glitchy static images flash across the display, protruding towards the viewer like the dome of an old-school TV screen. Excessive pixelation blends together images of crosses, body-horror-esque surgeries, and live footage of Puncture performing.

Skin Tape presents like a manifesto-wielding industrial band, albeit one that has embraced video as their primary form of expression. The link between the music genre and the project’s video work remains a constant and unmistakable thread. Skin Tape videos blend shocking visuals in grainy resolution with raw industrial music, consistently capturing the essence of industrial culture.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Skin Tape does in-fact produce music of its own. A three track EP from 2020 can be viewed here on spotify.

This latest video for Puncture joins a growing list of previous works. Some of which includes video clips for the legendary Sleep Chamber, Exit Electronics and Radar Men From The Moon.

    Puncture Reissue

PUNCTURE, the industrial metal band based in Dallas, has partnered with Black Artifact to reissue their 1994 debut album in an expanded two-disc edition. This special release will feature the original 1994 CD, fully remastered by Rob Colwell, as well as a second disc containing demo versions, unreleased tracks, and remixes mastered by Grant Richardson.

PUNCTURE first gained recognition in the ’90s when Gammacide guitarist Rick Perry began exploring unconventional forms of heaviness. Teaming up with techno DJ Per Nilsson, PUNCTURE became a furious mix of thrash metal guitars, pulverizing drum machines, raspy vocals, and an array of bizarre samples.

To bring PUNCTURE’s music to the stage, additional musicians were recruited, including John Perez (SOLITUDE AETURNUS), Mike Harmatiuk Trujillo (THE HELLIONS, KILLCREEPS), Larry Moses (DAYS OF DECISION), Mark Brian Powell (GAMMACIDE), and Brad Womack (CAUSTIC DEATH). The PUNCTURE live experience was further amplified with clouds of fog, strobe lights, and video screens displaying scenes of animal vivisection and S&M bondage.

PUNCTURE thrived in the chaos of the ’90s, but ultimately succumbed to rock ‘n’ roll excess, disbanding in late 1999. They briefly reunited in 2008 for two shows.

Following the split, Rick Perry returned to thrash metal with WARBEAST, which signed to Phil Anselmo’s Housecore Records. Rick is currently a member of the old-school heavy metal band IRON JAW, which released Chain of Command in 2020 and is set to release its second album soon.

Earlier this year, Black Artifact contacted Rick Perry, reminding him of the 30th anniversary of PUNCTURE’s debut album, and proposed a reissue.

The result is PUNCTURE XXX. Rob Colwell worked with the original DAT masters to give new clarity and punch to aggro-classics like “Nailed to a Cross” and “Breeding Contempt.” The second disc features the original demo versions, previously unreleased tracks like “Bullet in the Chamber,” and some techno remixes mastered by Grant Richardson. The original 1994 cover art has also been reimagined and reinterpreted by Black Artifact.

As Kerrang! magazine said upon PUNCTURE’s original 1994 release, “…with white noise screams of pain grafted onto an irresistible beat, you won’t know whether to start dancing or start killing!”

PUNCTURE XXX is available on October 18 via Black Artifact.
